The dream of Persona 5 on Nintendo Switch continues to live on thanks to an interview with Atlus Communications Manager Ari Advincula, who suggested that fans not give up hope on the possibility of a port despite the fact that fruitless rumors have been circulating about it for over a year now. Persona 5 is one of the most successful iterations of the long-beloved franchise - especially in the west, where it gained significant traction among new fans - and Persona 5 Royal has rekindled interest in a Nintendo Switch version of the lengthy JRPG.
Persona 5 Royal is a natural fit for a port to a new platform, too. The re-release of the game features a slew of new content, including a playable character addition that adds a whole new dynamic to the title. Persona 5 Royal also makes several tweaks and ease-of-life fixes to the base game, which was already accessible but a daunting task for anyone without a hundred or so hours to spare. After the success of other RPGs being ported to the Switch - namely The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - more developers are interested in offering long narratives on the gaming industry’s premier portable device.
Although the Persona 5 Nintendo Switch rumors that persisted throughout much of 2019 proved to be false, it’s still possible they’ll come true in the future. During an interview with IGN, Atlus Communications Manager Ari Advincula was asked if fans should finally come to terms with the fact that a Persona 5 Nintendo Switch port isn’t happening. Instead of shutting down the possibility, however, Advincula offered up a glimmer of hope for fans, suggesting that he is a “strong believer in ’never ever give up on hope’.” Advincula elaborated by saying that fans should keep telling Atlus what they want.
However, Advincula was also quick to point out that just because she isn’t in charge of the decision-making on a Persona 5 Nintendo Switch port, so just because she thinks fans should keep voicing their opinion doesn’t mean that she’s guaranteeing it will actually influence the company to commit to the port. Atlus has a reputation for listening to fans, however, and inviting them to continue offering their opinion indicates that policy is still in place.
Will a Persona 5 Nintendo Switch port actually happen? For now, it seems like Atlus is leaving it up to fans to prove just how badly they want it. Given how fervent fans were in 2019 for the Persona 5 Switch port, it’s worth noting that the Persona 5 fan community probably won’t have many issues with demonstrating exactly how great a Switch version would be. Once that happens, the ball will firmly be in Atlus’ court.
